Murat Hazar, who works at a gift shop, suffered abdominal pain for 8 days. Unable to endure the pain, Hazar applied to the emergency department of Atatürk Training and Research Hospital. In the examinations, it was determined that there was a bent piece of wire in Murat Hazar’s small intestine. Murat Hazar was operated on by general surgeon Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Dinç, and a 10-centimeter-long wire folded in half was removed from his intestine. The intestine, which the wire perforated in 4 places, was treated.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Dinç said that if the wire had stayed in the intestine for a while longer, inflammation would have occurred and the patient could have died.

Stating that this is not a very common situation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinç noted that people can accidentally swallow objects, but that the body can mostly expel these objects on its own.

Murat Hazar, who swallowed the wire, said that he may have swallowed the wire while eating kokoreç. Hazar said, "When I saw the wire that came out of my intestine, I was very surprised and I had a bad feeling thinking, 'how did I swallow this.' I’m fine now." he said.
