He Ate Honeycomb Honey, A 10-Centimeter Wire Came Out Of His Stomach

A 10-centimeter-long wire was surgically removed from the stomach of a woman living in Antalya. It is thought that the woman swallowed the wire together with honeycomb honey she ate in winter.
The wire that Hanım Dalkılıç (42), who lives in the Korkuteli district and is married and a mother of 2 children, said she swallowed without noticing in the honeycomb honey she ate in the winter months, started causing pain in her abdomen 2 days ago. Dalkılıç, who applied to a hospital in Korkuteli with stomach burning and severe abdominal pain, was referred to Atatürk State Hospital for more detailed examinations. General Surgery Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Dinç and Specialist Dr. Nesli Yiğitsoy first performed an ultrasound and tomography on the patient. The team, who saw an object at the exit of the patient’s stomach progressing toward the liver, removed the 10-centimeter-long wire with an endoscopic method. Hanım Dalkılıç, who regained her health with a half-hour surgery using the closed method, was taken to the ward.

"It Was Progressing Toward The Liver"

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Dinç, a General Surgery Specialist at Atatürk State Hospital, recalled that his 42-year-old female patient was referred to their hospital from Korkuteli with a complaint of abdominal pain.

Noting that they immediately performed an ultrasound and tomography on the patient, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinç said, "When we saw a suspicious object in the stomach, we performed an endoscopy examination. In the endoscopy, we detected a foreign wire that had pierced the stomach and extended into the abdomen. Then we decided on surgery. During the operation, we saw a piece of wire that had pierced the stomach and was progressing toward the large vessels of the liver. It was approximately 10 centimeters long. We operated on our patient within half an hour with the closed method. We also closed the opening with stitches," he said.

"The Wire In The Honeycomb Honey"

Stating that the patient was on her second day after the operation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinç said, "Our patient is recovering quickly. We think the incident occurred as a result of her swallowing the wire inside the honeycomb honey. If this operation had not been performed, the wire could have progressed toward the large vessels of the liver and could have posed a life-threatening danger for our patient. Our patient can eat anything she wants comfortably. We will discharge our patient within two days," he said.

"I Will Eat Strained Honey"

Hanım Dalkılıç, who regained her health after the surgery, said, "Two days ago, burning and pain in my stomach started. It happened suddenly. I was referred to Atatürk State Hospital. My doctors performed surgery. A wire came out of my stomach. This wire came from the honeycomb. I was eating honey in cold weather during winter. I feel very good now. From now on, I will eat strained honey, not honeycomb honey. Those who will eat honeycomb honey should be careful," she said.
Dalkılıç noted that she would keep the wire as a souvenir if her doctor allows.
