Surgeon Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Dinç, who first provided information to 20 surgeons who came from different cities of Turkey about scarless endoscopic thyroidectomy through the inside of the lip, said that after the training was completed, they performed a thyroidectomy surgery with the robotic method for the first time.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Dinç from the General Surgery Clinic of Antalya Training and Research Hospital stated that they organized a 2-day training for surgeons who showed interest in scarless endoscopic thyroidectomy through the mouth, and noted that after the theoretical training, they demonstrated the technique live by applying it in surgery in a practical manner, and after the training was completed, they performed a thyroidectomy surgery with the robotic method for the first time.
Stating that they performed thyroid surgery on 54 patients in one year with the scarless endoscopic method through the inside of the lip, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinç drew attention to the fact that there are some criteria for this method. Stating that patients who previously had surgery from the front of the neck and received radiotherapy are not suitable patients for endoscopic or robotic surgery, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinç said, “We can apply these methods in patients with benign nodules smaller than 6 centimeters and malignant nodules smaller than 2 centimeters," he said.
The 55th Case Was Operated On With The Robotic Method
Stating that the first patient to undergo thyroidectomy surgery with the robotic method was Durkadın Bölüc (34), the General Surgeon said, “Until today, we had reached 54 cases in scarless thyroid surgery through the inside of the lip that we performed with the endoscopic method. Durkadın Bölüc became our patient whom we operated on with robotic surgery for the first time as our 55th case" he said.
"In Robotic Surgery, We Can See The Tissue In 3 Dimensions"
Although there is no major technical difference between endoscopic surgery and robotic surgery, Dinç pointed out that thanks to the devices used, the surgeon can see the tissue in 3 dimensions and said, “Because the equipment we use can move in 3 dimensions, it provides ergonomics for the surgeon during surgery. This is very important for the surgeon. Because it ensures that the surgery applied to the patient is more controlled. The comfort for the patient is the same as endoscopic surgery. Both methods are applied through the inside of the lip and are less traumatic for the patient,” he said.
“I Heard About Surgery Through The Inside Of The Lip For The First Time”
Durkadın Bölüc, who got rid of a nodule in the right side of her thyroid gland that was suspected of cancer and was smaller than 1 centimeter through robotic surgery, said that she feels very good although she had surgery 10 days ago. Stating that she heard about surgery through the inside of the lip for the first time and was a little worried, Bölüc said, “I trusted my doctor. With God’s permission, I set out on this path and my surgery was successful,” she said.
