Housewife Hanım Dalkılıç, a mother of two living in Antalya's Korkuteli district, applied to Korkuteli State Hospital with severe abdominal pain. After her initial examinations were carried out there, Dalkılıç was transferred by ambulance to Antalya Atatürk State Hospital. General Surgery Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Dinç and Specialist Doctor Nesli Yiğitsoy, who determined that there was a foreign object in Dalkılıç's stomach, removed this object from the stomach with surgery.
A 10-Centimeter Wire Came Out
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Dinç, who performed the surgery, said that they saw the foreign object that had pierced the stomach with the endoscopy method. Noting that in the operation they performed with the closed method, they detected the wire that had pierced the stomach and was progressing toward the liver and vessels, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Dinç said, “Approximately a 10-centimeter wire came out. We think it was the wire from the honeycomb honey she ate. Under normal conditions, these objects are expelled from the body on their own with a 95 percent probability. However, surgery was necessary for this patient. The tip of the wire we removed was very close to the vessels going to the liver. If we had been delayed a little longer, we could have faced a life-threatening situation," he said.
She Bought The Honey To Protect Against Diseases
Hanım Dalkılıç stated that they bought honeycomb honey from the market in winter to protect against diseases, and said that she may have swallowed the wire without noticing. Dalkılıç noted that she would keep the wire that came out of her stomach as a souvenir.
